Taksim Gezi Parkı
From le cool:
“The rumor is that 60 stars will come down to Taksim Gezi Park, they will turn into graffiti when they touch on the walls of the park. Some of these stars are from Europe and the others are from Turkey. They won’t run away from the police since Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Youth Council and Culture Co. organizes The Graffiti Festival. 60 different graffiti artist will draw all day. Festival is not done with that. Skateboards and roller skaters will roll all day. It’s just 11 am in the morning. The amps will get steamy with DJ Muzir’s R&B and Hiphop selection. And then Betabox Shows will come along. Rapper Ramiz steps onto the stage. In the blink of an eye the night comes; it’s 8 o’clock and finally our DJ Funky C takes charge!”
The festival was interesting, fun and free. Loads of artists, of varying levels of talent, showed up to paint their section of board with their chosen subject. Skaters and freestyle riders performed tricks. DJs spun tunes and kids danced for the crowds. We were surprised by how long it took many of the artists to finish their work, as this type of painting is usually done quickly. The crowd was diverse and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. The event appeared to be well funded and was sponsored by several corporations (Vans, Red Bull, Montana Colors) but nothing was being pushed on anybody.
